Kiln ( "fornace" ) is a word derived from the Old English word "cyln,"
from the Latin word "culėna," meaning "stove." It is a nucleus of fire around
which production and the work-day are centered, and is composed of a number of
functional spaces consisting of open areas accented by arches which make up its
structure, and closed, loose-stone foundation areas of loggias and courtyards.
